Media and Journalism

GIVING VOICE TO AFRICAN JEWISH LIFE

For over a decade, the Avraham Ben Avraham Foundation (ABAF) has been committed to documenting, preserving, and amplifying the lives and activities of Jewish communities in Africa. What began as the personal work of a single writer in Abuja has grown into a continental media movement dedicated to telling African Jewish stories with dignity, accuracy, and pride.

Today, ABAF operates one of the most significant Jewish media initiatives on the continent: African Jewish Voices — a platform created to ensure that no African Jewish community remains unseen or unheard.

FROM LOCAL STORIES TO A CONTINENTAL PLATFORM

ABAF’s media journey began with documenting synagogue life in Abuja, Nigeria. This expanded into the Jewish Nigeria Blog, and ultimately evolved into African Jewish Voices, a pan-African Jewish news and storytelling platform.

African Jewish Voices now:

Covers Jewish news across Africa

Maintains a network of over 12 writers from multiple countries

Publishes weekly stories and features

Highlights both religious and social life

Documents history, culture, and development

Our goal is simple:

That African Jews, wherever they live, are represented in the global Jewish narrative.

A GROWING NETWORK OF PROFESSIONALS

ABAF works with a broad and expanding creative network that includes:

Journalists and bloggers

Rabbis and teachers

Authors and researchers

Photographers

Graphic designers

Content creators and editors

Together, we maintain a standard of journalism that aspires to meet international professional levels, while remaining deeply rooted in community experience.

Training the Next Generation of Jewish Storytellers

ABAF does not only report stories — we build storytellers.

We actively:

Recruit young and new writers

Train local contributors

Mentor emerging journalists

Encourage documentation of local Jewish life

This allows communities to:

Tell their own stories

Preserve their own histories

Bring their local realities to global attention

We also seek to expand our correspondent network beyond Africa, with contributors in:

🇮🇱 Israel

🇺🇸 United States

🌍 Jewish diaspora communities

AFRICA’S FIRST PAN-AFRICAN JEWISH MAGAZINE

ABAF publishes the African Jewish Voices Magazine, the first pan-African Jewish magazine dedicated exclusively to African Jewish life.

The magazine features:

Community profiles

Cultural heritage

Education and youth

Economic development

Environmental projects

Jewish thought and identity

It serves as both:

A living archive

A bridge between Africa and world Jewry

DOCUMENTARY FILM & VISUAL STORYTELLING

ABAF is expanding from written journalism into film and documentary production, aiming to enrich Jewish archives through visual storytelling and to share African Jewish narratives with global audiences.
