Food Security

Food security is central to stable and thriving communities. Across many parts of Africa, families face challenges of low agricultural output, limited access to funding, and a lack of technical support needed to expand food production in a sustainable way.

The Avraham Ben Avraham Foundation (ABAF) works closely with local communities and groups to strengthen food production and improve livelihoods through dialogue, planning, and partnership-building. Our approach begins by engaging communities in thoughtful discussions about practical ways to increase agricultural output using their available land, skills, and natural resources.

In addition, ABAF works closely with Jewish communities in Kenya and parts of rural Uganda to explore how they can better leverage their local environments and resources. Through guided brainstorming and planning sessions, we help communities identify opportunities to expand small initiatives into scalable projects that can be commercialized with the support of interested foreign donors and impact investors.

Our aim is to help develop future commercial ventures that can lift rural Jewish communities out of poverty and connect them more fully to their national economies. These projects are designed to open pathways for participation in wider economic activity, including markets in major cities, rather than leaving Jewish communities isolated in rural areas.

We actively look for opportunities that already exist—or can be developed—in rural settings and that have the potential to reshape economic outcomes and change long-standing narratives. By transforming local strengths into viable enterprises, we seek to build sustainable livelihoods that allow rural Jewish communities to grow with dignity, stability, and economic inclusion.

Through the Food Security & Livelihood program, ABAF advances Tikkun Olam by helping communities move from vulnerability to productivity, from dependency to self-reliance, and from food scarcity to sustainable nourishment.
